Tobi Amusan clinches third consecutive Diamond League title after overcoming controversy



Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan bounced back from a controversial season to win her third consecutive Diamond League title in the women’s 100m hurdles on Sunday.

However, Amusan finished first in 12.33 seconds at the Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon, US,

beating Jasmine Camacho-Quin of Puerto Rico (12.38s) and Kendra Harrison of the US (12.44s).

The 27-year-old’s 2023 season has been marred by controversy. In the lead-up to the World Athletics Championships,

Hence, she was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unity (AIU) for allegedly missing three tests in 12 months.

Her participation in the world championship was in jeopardy until she was cleared of the charge three days before the competition.

Tobi Amusan failed to defend her world title in Budapest, finishing sixth in the final.

However, the Nigerian showed her resilience on Sunday

to win her third consecutive Diamond League title.

“I’m so happy to be back here and to win again,” Amusan said after the race.

“It’s been a tough season, but I’m glad I was able to come back and finish strong.”

Furthermore, Amusan’s victory is a testament to her strength and determination.

She has overcome adversity to become one of the best hurdlers in the world.
