Popular Influencer Dies after Surgery to Increase Her Backside

The influencer was hospitalized at the beginning of May after she had silicone and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) injected into her buttocks.
An influencer and reporter from Brazil has died following a surgery to increase her backside.
Lygia Fazio, 40 died after complications from a butt lift surgery performed by ‘a man who claimed to be a nurse.’

DailyMail reported that before her death, Fazio was hospitalized at the beginning of May after she had silicone and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) injected into her buttocks.
She was in intensive care for four weeks before her condition worsened and is believed to have suffered a stroke. The mother of two young boys, aged 2 and 11, died May 31, her family said in a statement.
In an interview with a local outlet several years ago, she acknowledged she was only looking to make minor changes to her butt before her boyfriend convinced her to get something ‘much bigger.’
Fazio had nearly one million followers on her Instagram account, which she had previously used to warn women about the dangers of having surgery to alter your appearance.

Her brother George Oliveira posted online after her death: ‘Guys, unfortunately our warrior passed away. Thanks again for all the support.’
In an interview with Revista Quem on Tuesday Oliveira blamed Fazio’s death on the constant pressures she faced after she started working for television networks Rede TV and Record TV.
‘She got into a very toxic, perfection-seeking environment,’ he said. ‘She tried to adapt to this aesthetic standard and started having several procedures (due to her) work.
‘The internet is a world apart; it seems like a parallel universe. She had a nose job and went on to perform other procedures, but she didn’t talk to us. She wouldn’t speak to anyone.’
Oliveira said the family noticed the gradual changes Fazio made to her butt, which she attributed to a fitness regimen.
Oliveira said her initial lift was performed by a doctor, who refused to apply additional silicone the second time she approached him.
He said his sister had told him she turned to the services of man who identified himself as a nurse and injected her at a friend’s home.
Fazio, who had over one million followers on Instagram, first reported problems three years ago.

In 2021, she spent more than 100 days hospitalized as doctors removed silicone that had spread throughout her body.
‘We could see that she wasn’t well. But she wasn’t a negative person, she always saw the good side of everything,’ Oliveira said. ‘Even when the complications came because of the silicone and the PMMA, she saw that she could get something out of it, she realized that it could be a mission.’
Fazio underwent seven surgeries after her first butt lift.
‘She was taking a lot of corticosteroids,’ Oliveira said. ‘She had hypercalcemia and overloaded her kidneys, she had to undergo dialysis.’
The grieving sibling said Fazio’s condition ‘was very complex.’
She was diagnosed with fungal endocarditis and doctors suggested the bacteria may have spread to ‘her brain and caused the stroke.’
‘I’m turning 30 and my sister has been with me since I was born, she was one of my best friends. If I die at the age of 90, I will have lived a short time with her,’ Oliveira said. ‘I wanted to grow old with her. This pressure for aesthetics left a void that we will never fill.’
No arrest had been made as of Wednesday.
