Nigerian woman drags her son, Tum Joseph to court for stealing family properties
A 30-year-old man, Tum Joseph, has been accused of stealing household items from his mother and harassing her. Joseph was arraigned before an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on Tuesday on three counts of criminal intimidation, causing a disturbance of the peace, and stealing.

The prosecution alleged that Joseph stole a mattress, two canisters of herbicide chemicals, ten yards of wrapping paper, and some of his father’s clothing from his mother’s house.
The prosecution also alleged that Joseph harassed his mother by disparaging and calling her names.
Joseph denied the charges and pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail in the amount of N20,000 with one surety in the same amount. The case was adjourned until September.
The case highlights the problem of domestic violence in Nigeria. According to a 2019 report by the National Bureau of Statistics, 31% of women in Nigeria have experienced physical violence from their partners.
This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
