A submersible that was carrying five people on a mission to explore the wreckage of the Titanic has been found at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, apparently destroyed by a catastrophic implosion.

The submersible, called Titan, was operated by OceanGate Expeditions, a company that specializes in deep-sea exploration.

It was carrying the company’s CEO, Stockton Rush, as well as British businessman Chris Harding, Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman Dawood, and French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The submersible set off from Newfoundland, Canada, on Sunday, June 18.

It was scheduled to reach the Titanic wreck site, about 13,000 feet below sea level, on Monday morning.

However, the submersible lost contact with its mother ship shortly after it began its descent.

A search was launched, and on Thursday, June 22, the tail cone and other debris from the submersible were found about 1,600 feet away from the Titanic wreck.

Also, This debris was consistent with a catastrophic implosion, which is believed to have been caused by the pressure of the water at that depth.

The families of the deceased have been notified. Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard said that he “can only imagine what this has been like for them” and that he hopes that the discovery of the debris “provides some solace during this difficult time.”

The sinking of the Titan is a tragic loss of life.

The five passengers who were on board were all experienced divers and explorers, and they were clearly passionate about the Titanic.

Their deaths are a reminder of the dangers of deep-sea exploration.

May their souls rest in peace.
