A man was charged to court in Ondo State, Nigeria, for allegedly defrauding four women of 45,000 naira (about $100) by sending them fake bank alerts.

The man, identified as Oluwafemi Damilola, was arrested by the police after the women filed a complaint. He was charged with two counts of fraud and indecent assault.

The police prosecutor, Akano Moremi, said that Damilola had patronized the services of the women and had paid them with fake alerts.

Furthermore, he said that Damilola had also had sexual relations with the women without their consent.

Damilola’s lawyer, S. A. Iluyemi, said that his client was willing to settle the matter out of court.

He said that Damilola had already paid back the money to the women and that he was willing to apologize to them.

However, Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju adjourned the case to a later date to allow for the settlement.

This case is a reminder of the dangers of online fraud.

It is important to be aware of the signs of a fake bank alert and to never give out personal information to someone you do not know.

Also, If you have been a victim of online fraud, you should report it to the police.

The charge read,

 ”That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, sometime in October 2022, at Sabo Road, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by fraudulently having carnal knowledge of the victims.

That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did indecently assault the female victims by fraudulently and unlawfully having carnal knowledge of them with the pretence of sending them the sum of N45,000 which you failed to do so but willingly send them a fake alert with the aim of defrauding them sexually and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
