A Nigerian lady has sparked outrage on social media after she shared photos of a sculpture she made of veteran actor Pete Edochie.
The sculpture, which depicts Edochie’s face in a distorted and exaggerated manner,
has been widely criticized for being disrespectful and offensive.
Many people have accused the artist of making fun of Edochie’s appearance
and of not respecting his legacy as a respected actor.
“This is so disrespectful,” one person wrote on social media.
“Pete Edochie is a national treasure, and this is how you choose to honor him?”
“This is not art,” another person wrote. “This is just plain mean-spirited.”
The artist has defended her work, saying that she was simply trying to create
a unique and thought-provoking piece of art.
“I don’t understand all the hate,” she said. “I’m just trying to express myself creatively.”
However, her defense has not done much to quell the anger of Edochie’s fans.
“You should be ashamed of yourself,” one person wrote to the artist. “I hope Pete Edochie sues you.”
The controversy has sparked a debate about the role of art and the limits of artistic expression.
